Cycling in beautiful surroundings around Hadseløya
Experience our paradise on an E-bike or a hybrid bike
Hadseløya
Hadseløya is located in the middle of the Lofoten and Vesterålen islands. With its diverse scenery, it serves as a miniature version of both of the stunning archipelagos. The trip around the island covers 42 kilometers and follows flat, easy-cycling terrain. Our journey begins and ends in Stokmarknes, the birthplace of the Hurtigruten.
From the Cradle of the Coastal Express to the King of the Skies
The adventure begins and ends in Stokmarknes, the birthplace of the world-famous Hurtigruten. From here, we pedal into a history that stretches back generations. Did you know that 150 years ago, Hadseløya was known as “Ptarmigan Island”? While the ptarmigans are fewer today, another ruler dominates the skies: the White-tailed Sea Eagle. With its massive wingspan, it frequently soars above us, and we can almost guarantee a sighting of this majestic hunter during our trip.
Cultural Gems and the Cosmos
We set off along the unique Planet Trail toward Hadsel, the island’s historical heart. Here, we pause at the beautiful Hadsel Church, admire the Star Monument, and feel the whispers of history at the Sun Stone.
The journey continues along quiet roads toward Melbu, a charming village that, a century ago, was well on its way to becoming the first city in Vesterålen.
Aquaculture Innovation and the Magic of the “Lofoten Wall”
After a short breather in Melbu, we cycle through lush farmlands on the west side. Here, tradition meets the future as we pass the giant offshore fish farm “Jostein Albert”—a technological marvel of modern aquaculture. As we pedal, the iconic Lofoten Wall serves as a dramatic mountain backdrop on the horizon.
Reaching the northwestern tip of the island, we find the outdoor paradise of Taen. Here, we will:
- Wander along the idyllic Path of Love (Kjærlighetsstien).
- Admire the Gulf Stream Monument.
- Take a refreshing (and ice-cold!) dip from the beach—reserved for the truly brave!
Art, Cake, and Canoeing
Our next stop is a feast for both the eyes and the palate – Galleri Uver. At this combined tea room and gallery, we’ll be served a lunch made from the finest local ingredients, topped off with the gallery’s famous homemade cakes. While you eat, draw inspiration from the glass art, which mirrors the colors and shapes of the surrounding wilderness.
Feeling adventurous? Take a canoe out for a paddle on the mirror-still Teiganvannet lake, located just a stone’s throw from the gallery.
The Final Stretch
Recharged and satisfied, we embark on the home stretch through the open cultural landscapes of the northern coast. After 5–6 hours, we roll back into Stokmarknes, filled with fresh sea air, local history, and unforgettable memories.
