Mountain Hike to Strøna – a hidden gem of a mountain on Østvågøya

SUMMER SEASON

The reward you get when you see the view from the top of Strøna is indescribable. It has to be experienced. Join us for a mountain hike that features a lovely ferry ride in addition to trekking through fantastic terrain

Vesterålen is HIKER’S PARADISE!

A fjord crossing and a majestic mountain peak – it doesn’t get any better than that!

The journey begins in Melbu. We will gather here before boarding the ferry to cross the Hadselfjord. The ferry terminal is practically right on the doorstep of Melbu Hotell—just 100 meters away—and the fjord crossing itself takes 25 minutes. Once across, a short 15-minute drive brings us to the starting point of our hike.

The first stage takes us through the lush Strøndalen valley before we begin the actual ascent. As we head into the valley, we pass an idyllic lake 108 meters above sea level, an area renowned for its rich and vibrant birdlife.

The first part of the hike is relatively easy going. We will take a good break at Litlheia (approx. 450 meters above sea level) to gather our strength before tackling the final stretch. This section is somewhat exposed and may feel steep, but the steepest point is securely fitted with ropes and chains for your safety.

With its characteristic pyramid shape rising 906 meters above sea level, Strøna offers an absolutely breathtaking view of Hadseløya, the Vesterålen Alps, and Lofoten. At the summit, we will treat ourselves to a proper rest to take in the scenery before starting our descent.

Later, as we cross the Hadselfjord on the way home, the ferry will provide the perfect vantage point to look back at the majestic mountain massif we have just conquered.
