Midnight Sun and the Silence of the Night

Look forward to a spectacular mountain hike with the midnight sun as a living backdrop. At 1:00 AM, the sun reaches its lowest point. At the summit you will experience the unique phenomenon where sunset and sunrise merge over the course of a brief half-hour.

From May 23rd to July 19th, Vesterålen is bathed in light 24 hours a day. On clear evenings, we will take you up one of Hadseløya’s most beautiful mountains, offering panoramic views of the sun. Along the way, a local mountain guide will spice up the trek with engaging stories and fascinating facts about the Arctic fauna.

This is an experience for all the senses. At the mountain summit, we pause to listen to the silence, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and feel the magical atmosphere that only exists up here in the North.

This is a memory for life—a moment you will never want to end. After welcoming the «new» day, we begin our beautiful descent back to the starting point.

Program for our guests

1. Late in the evening, we will pick you up at your designated meeting point in either    Melbu or Stokmarknes.
2. A short 20-minute drive takes us to the foot of the mountain. Before we begin the    ascent, walking poles will be provided for anyone who needs them. 
3. The guided hike takes approximately 2 hours. Along the trail and from the summit, you will experience the breathtaking midnight sun. We will take several breaks to        enjoy the stunning panoramic views, as well as any food and drinks you have                brought along. Remember to bring your camera!
4. We will begin our descent from the summit at around 1:15 AM.
5. You will be safely returned to your original pick-up location after approximately 3    to 4 hours in total.

Do you need food and drinks on tour?

It is possible to rent a backpack included local food, hot and cold drinks for NOK 395.

Important to know

It is important to be dry, warm and to feel safe on our tours. Our guide demands correct shoes and outfit, so our guests stay warm and safe. If the outfit is not correct, you will not be allowed to participate.

A backpack with food, drinks and extra clothes is also important for a good experience.

We need the sky to be clear or slighty cloudy to experience the midnight sun. If we see that the weather will be too cloudy, the trip will be cancelled. Information will be given to the participants.
