Two Mountain Peaks

On this trek, you will experience both dramatic mountain peaks and idyllic sand beaches, in a terrain that alternates between easy-going sections and exciting challenges.

We will summit two mountain peaks on this hike:
* Finngamheia (448 meters above sea level)
* Sørkulen (517 meters above sea level)

Route Description

A Scenic Journey to the starting point
We begin the day by driving from Melbu, Stokmarknes, or Sortland to the charming fishing village of Stø, where the hike begins. The drive takes approximately 1.5 hours. Along the way, you will experience large parts of Vesterålen, watching the landscape change and grow wilder and steeper the further northwest we travel.

Along the shoreline to Nyksundskaret
From Stø, we start our hike along the beautiful coastline towards Nyksundskaret. This first section is in flat, easy terrain, and we will pass the gorgeous sand beach, Skipssanden.

The Ascent to Finngamheia
At Nyksundskaret, the real climb begins, and the first section is steep. We set our sights on the first peak of the trip, Finngamheia. Once we reach the top, we are halfway through the hike. This is the perfect spot for a well-deserved lunch break with fantastic views.

Over Sørkulen and a spectacular descent
After our break, we continue down into the pass before tackling the ridge towards Sørkulen. We will take a short detour up to the actual summit to enjoy the panoramic views before turning back towards Stø. For many, the descent towards Stø is the absolute highlight of the entire trek. The view over the open ocean, the fishing village of Stø, Anda Lighthouse, Langnes, and Andøya in the background is simply spectacular!

Once safely back down in Stø, our transport will be waiting, ready to take us back to the pick-up points.

Program for our guests

The tour departs from Melbu, with additional pick-ups at Stokmarknes and Sortland

1. We’ll meet at one of the designated meeting points.
2. Transport to starting point for the hike, Stø.
3. Upon arrival at the foot of the mountain, hiking poles will be provided to our guests  upon request.
4. Guidet tour where we visit 2 summits. There will be plenty of stops along the way to enjoy your packed lunch and drinks.
5. After 5–7 hours, and ap. 12 kilometers, we will return to Stø.
6. We are returning to the pick-up points. We will spend maximum 11 hours on this tour included stops.

• English speaking guide
• Hiking poles

Do you need food and drinks on tour?

It is possible to rent a backpack included local food, hot and cold drinks for NOK 395.

Important to know

It is important to be dry, warm and feel safe on our tours. Our guide demands correct shoes and outfit, so our guests stay warm and safe. If the outfit is not correct, you will not be allowed to participate.

A backpack with local food, drinks and extra clothes is also important for a good experience.
